Pastor Letter
July 25
Dear Friends,
Ok, I’m going to go ahead and name and claim this week as Mission’s Week at Troy First. Our Youth left early Sunday morning for their mission trip in Midland, Michigan. We’ll be hearing more about the trip as our youth lead the worship service on August 11.
Let me share with you some words that Corinna sent me this morning; it will warm your heart as it did mine.
“What an incredible experience the youth and I have had so far; everyone has been getting along great. The youth have been spending a lot of time together in the gym during downtime. They have all tried new things and stepped out of their comfort zones. I’m so proud of them. I’ve heard specific youth who were apprehensive to sing in the sanctuary, singing loud and proud during our nighttime worship. I have seen Christ shine in new ways in our youth; even the younger youth are building doors and taking on huge projects with the Holy Spirit moving through them. “
Keep the prayers coming for our youth. They return on Saturday.
From Michigan to Africa, our mission week continues as we host Princess Jusu, our missionary in Liberia. I have enjoyed getting to know Princess and learning all about her work at the women’s training center in Liberia. In the short day and a half that I hosted Princess Jusu, we visited Pastor George’s church, called on (and shared communion with) Karen Belt at Baldwin Senior Living House and had our morning coffee at the Starbucks that is part of our food distribution program. (Remember, our team picks up food from this Starbucks every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and takes it to one of our local food pantries.) Princess and I had a chance to talk with the manager of Starbucks, to thank her and let her know what a difference they are making at the food pantries in our area. The manager had a tear in her eye, and we all shared one of those God moments.
There is a very special time for all of you to meet Princess Jusu and learn more about her mission work: tonight at 7pm in the Chapel. Let’s give this hard-working missionary a true Troy First welcome!
This Sunday we begin a two-part series on “Baptism” and we will “remember our baptism” in a special way at the end of the service. Remembering may not be about remembering the actual moment of baptism (many of you were baptized as babies...), but we remember what it means. We remember the promises that we made or those that were made on our behalf and the promises God made to us in that moment of baptism. It is a great way to end our Missions Week. See you Sunday.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Myra
