Dear Friends,
Last Sunday, I invited you all to join me on the campaign trail. It is a campaign for justice and kindness and humility. This Sunday, we will have yard signs for you to take out into the community. Let’s remind the world that despite all of our differences, we will be just and kind and humble. We will also have some T-shirts for you to purchase. I am imagining that we infiltrate our community with this great message from Micah 6:8. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if someone asked you about it? You could tell that your church has launched this campaign to help bridge the gap, the great divides of this country.
This Sunday we will also take a deep dive into kindness and humility. What does it look like in the world to be truly kind and humble, to put others first. Last night we celebrated the life of Kathy Deyo, a long-time member of our church and loyal member of our Chancel choir. Kathy’s children were so smart to take their mom into a professional recording studio and record her singing, before her illness would make that impossible. We were able to hear her angelic voice once more, last night. It was so beautiful. But what has stayed with me more than anything, is what people had to say about Kathy. Everyone said how kind she was, how caring she was. “She never had a negative thing to say about anyone...” That is the “kindness” we are talking about, the “kindness” that God requires of us. (Micah 6:8)
Woodward Outreach is up and running, feeding the homeless and the hungry Mondays and Fridays at Ferndale First. We at Troy First are responsible for Mondays. If you can make a pot of soup or want to volunteer please contact Nan Wilberding or Nancy Cameron ([email protected] or [email protected] ).
And yes, it’s RUMMAGE SALE time. I am pretty excited. For the first time, I am coming into Rummage Sale able to walk. Last year I was fresh out of surgery, but two years ago, I hobbled in and my heart was warmed by the “kindness” that permeated this event: people working together, lots of laughter and fun, raising money that will be given to those in need. But most of all, I saw families come in to shop who didn’t have enough money to get what they needed. They were made to feel welcome and valued, and they left with a lot more than they planned. Rummage sale at Troy First is a joyous time; don’t miss out. “Drop off” of items begins this Sunday after church. See you Sunday.
Grace and Peace
